Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from that period of that year.
The win also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.
But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional title, took control to force a final set.
The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
