Cars in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police mentioned they were notified by a man who found a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

An important political figure commented the incident made him without words and required to be resolved promptly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
